Every NBA team has four distinct uniforms they wear on any given night throughout the season.
So to announce the Kings’ latest uniforms, and to generate excitement about each upcoming season, I work with Kings VP and Creative Director Ryan Brijs to create films that launch across the team’s social platforms, then run on local in-game broadcasts throughout the year.
To promote the release of the ’24-’25 Nike Classic Edition Uniform, a throwback to the purples from 2003, we brought back the starting backcourt duo of Doug Christie and Mike Bibby, doing a little crafting in the garage to help everyone relive the good old days.
The film dropped on team socials, and was quickly picked up by ESPN, Uproxx, Dime and CBS Sports. And we somehow garnered the most positive Instagram comment section I’ve literally ever seen.
A lot of people don’t know that the Kings are the oldest franchise in the NBA. They got their start in 1923 as the Rochester Seagrams (yes, the Canadian whiskey).
The new Nike City Edition uniform is a celebration of “100 Years of Royalty.”
So we created a docu-style launch film telling the story of the team’s history. Sam Elliott, who is originally from Sacramento, contributed his magnificent voice to the project.
“We Tip Our Crown” was released across the team’s social channels, and was picked up and re-shared by sports properties like NBA.com and Bleacher Report.
The Kings’ primary color is purple. And the bright purple “beam” the team shines after victories has become a source of local celebration. But the new uniforms weren’t going to have much purple so we came up with a reason why.
“Purple Shortage” was released on IG in partnership with the NBA. Sportscenter loved it, so they posted the spot as well. All leading to millions of views and engagements in the first 24 hours.
